Our Founder

The Founder of C.M.I. Congregation Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born in 1805 at Kainakary, Kerala. After his early schooling and priestly studies he was ordained priest in 1829. Father Kuriakose founded the Indigenous Religious Congregation – Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) on May 11, 1831. He was a pioneer in education and social work in the country. He was an illustrious scholar, educationist, prolific writer, poet, multi linguist, social reformer and an organizer.

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805 – 1871)

It is a Christian minority institution with all the rights and privileges granted by the constitution of India. The school is an Unaided institution recognized by the Department of Education , Karnataka. It is Managed by the fathers of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C M I).

              St.Thomas School was started in the year 1968 in a small village called Athur  with a  Strength of 11 students. Rev. Fr. Barnabas who was a visionary took initial steps for startiy the school. The school was shiftiest to the present location in the year 1969.The high school  was started in the year 2000 by Rev.Fr.George kalambukkatt.

RULES & REGULATIONS

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1. Our school is primarily meant to provide better education based on religious and moral values to all irrespective of religion, caste or community, paying respect to their religious feelings and freedom of conscience.

2. The school aims not merely at preparing its pupils to qualify for the board examinations but also achieving excellence in every aspect of educational activity – spiritual, academic, cultural, social and physical – by developing their character and personality through graded responsibility, personal guidance and social awareness, thus forming them into leaders of the intellectual and civic life of the country.

3. Having this objective in view and guided by the Christian principles, in keeping with the signs of the times and the motto of our school, ‘Knowledge and Excellence’, we try to inculcate in our students proper interests, attitudes and a sense of value, they have to uphold in life.

4. Our activities are geared toward promoting in our students and staff members a deep and firm faith in God, which should be manifested in their respect for spiritual values and concern for their fellow men and women.

5. Thus the school aims at the integral formation of the young. Their parents are requested to be co-operative with the staff and management in realising this noble task.

ADMISSIONS

6. Every candidate for admission must be introduced by the parent/guardian who will be responsible for his/ her conduct, progress in studies, discipline and payment of fees.

7. The Principal has the right to dismiss pupil then whose conduct is found not satisfactory or who is not benefited by his stay and study in this school.

WITHDRAWAL

8. Transfer certificates will be issued only when the parent/guardian applies for it in the prescribed form after all the dues have been cleared in the office.

9. Duplicates of transfer certificates will not be issued unless the request is supported by an affidavit, stating reason for the request, with prescribed fee.

DISMISSAL

10. Irregular, attendance, habitual idleness, disobedience or defiance of authority, lack of sufficient efforts to improve in studies, or conduct against the moral tone of the school and parental non-co-operation with the staff or school authorities are sufficient reasons for dismissal of a student. Similarly those who do malpractices in exams will also be dismissed without any hearing.

11. Pupils are responsible to behave themselves well inside and outside the school. Hence, misbehaviour in public places, streets and conveyances are sufficient reasons for the dismissal from school.

ATTENDANCE

12. Regular attendance in class is an important factor of good education. For every absence, a written request signed by the parent must be made in the Handbook. This should be produced on attending the class the day after the absence, and countersigned by the class teacher.

13. In case of serious illness that requires absence for more than five days, the Principal must be informed in writing and the doctor’s certificate must be presented to him by the parent. Every student must put in a minimum of 90% attendance to be eligible to take up the annual examinations.

14. Those who absent themselves without leave for more than 10 days will be removed from the rolls. Once removed, their readmission is granted only by the Principal at his discretion.

15. Students and teachers have to, attend the morning assembly. Late comers shall not enter the class; but report themselves to the Principal/Teacher designate. Habitual late coming will not be tolerated, but will be seriously viewed. Sick and unhealthy students and those suffering from contagious diseases will not be permitted to attend classes.

16. Students, who enter the school campus in the morning, will not be permitted to go out of the campus till the evening.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

17. Students shall come to school with the usual uniforms from Monday to Saturday. The uniform, which the school provides should be purchased by all.

a) Nursery Section (KG SECTION)

Boys: – Gray shorts, Cream shirt with Gray coat and Black shoes and Red socks

Girls: – Red checks skirt, Cream shirt with Gray coat and Black shoes and Red socks

b) Primary and higher primary school section (I TO VII)

Boys: – Gray shorts, Cream shirt with Gray coat and Black shoes and Red socks

Girls: – Red checks skirt, Cream shirt with Gray coat and Black shoes and Red socks

c) High School Section (VIII TO X)

Boys: – Gray shorts, Cream shirt with Gray coat and Black shoes and Red socks

HOME-STUDY AND PARENTAL CO-OPERATION

18. Parents are expected to co-operate with the school authorities by enforcing regularity and discipline in their children. They have to prepare a time-table for home-study and supervise their assignments. They may help them in preparing their daily lessons.

19. Daily reports about students, if any, from the school are conveyed through the handbook. Parents are expected to take note of these reports and messages with their counter signature.

20. Parents, guardians or other persons are never allowed to meet the students or teachers during class-hours at the door of classrooms. On emergencies they may contact the Principal, in the office.

21. Private tuition before or after class hours, are generally discouraged. It may spoil the studious nature of students in classrooms. The untrained and unqualified tutors can impose

a heavy burden on them, wasting their energy and time and at the same time causing an additional financial burden to the parents. The students thus get no time to relax playing games etc.

22. Private tuition in emergency cases may be given only after consulting the class teacher or subject- teacher and the principal.

 

EXAMINATIONS AND PROMOTION:-

23. Periodic tests are found necessary to assess the performance of students. It also promotes healthy competitions among themselves and helps them make aware of their own shortcomings and failures in their study habits by getting them graded again and again.

24. Holding on to these principles, we conduct four class tests and a mid-term examination before the final examination. One must not be absent for any of these examinations except for health reasons, in which case a medical certificate may be submitted in advance. Promotion to the next class is decided on the aggregate of 40% marks in both the semester examinations.

25. These tests cannot be deferred nor anticipated to suit individual convenience. No re-examination will be conducted in any subject.

26. Any kind of malpractice in the tests, attempted or intended by any student, is punishable with suspension or expulsion from the tests or from school according to the gravity of the offense.

27. The results of the tests and exams will be given to the parents in the report card, while the final result of the academic year on promotion or detention will be announced in school.

DISCIPLINE

28. Discipline is an integral part of the learning process. For this a student has to learn to control his emotions and impulses. He must learn to live in harmony with others by respecting the customs and traditions of others and society, by following the laws of the country and by obeying the commandments of God.

29. Order must be the hallmark of our school. For this everyone must maintain an atmosphere of silence during working hours in classrooms, staff- rooms and office.

30. Cleanliness is a pre-requisite of orderliness. Therefore, all the classrooms, corridors and the campus, as a whole, must reflect this in our school, which aims at bringing up an atmosphere of godliness.

31. Students should not indulge themselves in any act of misbehaviour or disobedience or disrespect towards the teachers.

32. Usage of the mobile phones and two wheeler by the students inside the campus is strictly prohibited.

33. Students reaching the school campus before the first bell have to go to their respective classrooms and work on their lessons, exercises or homework, in silence. They should not be seen outside their classrooms, corridors or in the playgrounds.

34. At the first bell, both students and staff shall assemble for prayer. After dispersal the students should move to their respective class rooms in perfect order, with their class teacher.

35. Students should not enter other classrooms. They are expected to take care of their own belongings. They should not bring any valuable articles books or magazines etc. to the school which are not prescribed in syllabus. They may not wear expensive jewellery.

36. The classrooms, corridors and the school premises shall be kept neat and clean. No littering is expected. Waste paper or other waste materials must always be thrown into the waste boxes provided.

37. The students and staff are expected to speak only in English once they enter the school campus except in Language classes.

38. The handbook issued to every student at the beginning of the year is to be kept neat and tidy all through the year and to be brought to school every day. Students are not allowed to write anything in it except in the calendar part of it. Once lost, a new one has to be collected from the office, but only with the special permission of the principal on the recommendation of the class teacher.

39. No collection of any kind for any purpose whatsoever may be made from the students or staff without the permission of the principal. Similarly no meeting, party or any kind of organized school activity shall be arranged without the previous approval of the principal. Parents are earnestly requested to make no personal gifts to staff members.

40. Students or staff shall not conduct any tours or picnics from the school without the prior permission and supervision of the school management.

SCHOOL FEES:-

41. Parents are expected to pay the fees of their children or wards in time without fail.
